Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

Francois, yes, i have changed the heater core. Since i had the dash out already, it was a good time to do so.

The heater core is very hard to find over here, and shipping charges from Europe are expensive!
Luckily one of my parts cars had the replacement all brass heater core, after an inspection, it was in good condition and i used that one.

I do not like the plastic and aluminum heater core, that is the only type i saw from Nissens or Valeo, did you find a brass unit, or the plastic type?

Cedric, thank you! The work has slowed down, sanding, body filler, preperations for painting are very time consuming as i am a mechanic, not a painter w

On a side note, i have the factory service manual that includes step by step removal and installation of the soft top, if anyone needs this, i may be able to scan the pages and create a file for them.

Happy Renaulting!

Eduardo, yes, i have many parts from Rock Auto, lots of wholesaler closeout prices bien

I wanted to order the heater core from them, but it was stocked in a warehouse in the U.K., so shipping charges where more than the cost of the part ouin

I will keep looking as i will need another one for my 86 Alliance soon!

Yes, i have found the Valeo part, but i am very frugal, and they wanted $169.00 for the part kaola
It would cost less to import from Europe!

Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

It has been a long time since i have posted an update, summer was busy camping and boating!

Now it's time to get back to work on Brenda's car!

After many hours of body work and sanding, we now have epoxy primer, hi build primer, and the first base coat of color bravo

Here are a few pictures, i will edit and post more as time allows.

I hope everyone had a good holiday season, and Brenda and I wish you all the best for the new year!http://imageshack.us/g/1/9957009/

Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

Is it easier to unmount fenders and doors to paint them ?
it's worth fighting for ?

Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

Thank you, Eduardo and Cedric smile

Cyrille, for the fenders, yes, that made it easier to do the mechanical work on the front.

As for the doors, that's another story, i was going to replace the drivers door, it was damaged. Then, as i was moving things around the shop with my forklift, i struck the passengers door with the machine and damaged it beyond repair kaola

Once again, i am very good at making more work for myself!

Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

Here are some more pictures of our work on Brenda's car. The painting is complete, the polishing will be complete after 1 more pass with the buffer.
A few pictures of Brenda helping with the wet sanding, she does not like me taking pictures of her!:ange:
New licence marker lights, not the exact replacements, but they are genuine Renault pieces.
Also the dash being installed, work on the hydraulic lines for the top, the carpet laid out to relax, and the rear bumper cover.
I had painted it black to hide the many inperfections, but now have decided to go back to the original look with only the black stripe in the middle. More sanding and painting ouin
Still much work to be done, but it all gets easier as assembly work progresses!

Funny to remove the steering wheel as you did big_smile
The more screws to remove, the better ? ddr

The licence marker lights fit exactly ? Have you got a part number ?

Top hoses available at http://convertibleparts.com/

Quick ! Paint this bumper, please ! redface

Re : Rebuilding Brenda's 1985 Alliance DL

Ahh, Cyrille, you always find the details w

The steering wheel is at a local leather shop getting a new leather wrap.

The marker lights are part #77.01.349.089, and yes they are a direct fit.

Yes, the hoses are available, $77.00 for each of the 2 sets, i can fix mine for about $30.00.

For the bumper, i was trying to take a short cut, but realize it would not look proper, and i have another set at home being sanded and prepared for painting. wink

Yes, the more screws the better.....:q
